A schist in which the foliation surfaces have been deformed to form kink bands. When foliation surfaces are deformed by small-scale strongly asymmetric folds, long narrow zones defined by the successive short limbs of these folds develop in the rock. These zones are called kink bands. Several can be seen traversing the photograph from 7 o'clock to 1 o'clock whilst one very prominent example runs from 11 to 5 o'clock.

Scale: compass is 100 mm long.
