South Sahara, Niger

The desert in Niger is called the Tenere Desert, and has sand dunes rising to over 200 metres in height.
The South of the Tenere Desert are the volcanic Air Mountains.
The South Sahara is very similar to the Western Sahara with the same dune features. As we move closer to the centre of the desert we do find that the area is much more elevated. The climate is hot dry and dusty and the terrain is mainly desert.

This location falls into the country of Niger, where in the South it is flat and in the north it is elevated. 80% of Niger is desert. It is Northern Niger that is mainly part of the Sahara and this is covered by large amounts of rocky and sandy wilderness broken by small oases.

The climate varies from season to season, generally it is very hot, and during the autumn a hot dry wind carries dust from the Sahara.
