Dune

The dune series marks the most landward part of a continental sabkha and the end of the sabkha series. The dunes outcrop in the form of large barchan dunes like these 30m high dunes seen in Quatar.

Depending upon how near they are to the coast these large sand dunes in southern Quatar either migrate into the sea, extending a sabkha or move on into Saudi Arabia.

The intense evaporation rates characteristic of deserts produce evaporite-encrusted surfaces, where the surface is in contact with the water table (West's Geology Fieldtrips).
